The Area of Concentration - Neurosciences (AOC-N) is designed to augment the existing University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine curriculum to provide medical students with an additional academic experience to enhance their physician training, with a specific focus in neuroscience. It offers students, with varying degrees of interest in neuro-related topics, a longitudinal educational experience focused on neurological and behavioral disorders, as well as multiple opportunities to connect with neuro-related research faculty, projects, and fellow students. Educational programming for the neuroscience AOC is faculty- and student-driven, and features various learning opportunities such as lunch talks, discussions with experts, and hands-on research technique demonstrations.

Because of the intensity of study, the School of Medicine recognizes successful completion of the program by granting a certificate. In addition, an AOC may be used to meet the Longitudinal Research Project (LRP) graduation requirement.
