Sarah Pedersen, PhD, Receives Nancy Petry Mid-Career Award from American Psychological Association Division 50 – Society of Addiction Psychology

Congratulations to Sarah Pedersen, PhD (Associate Professor of Psychiatry, Clinical and Translational Science, and Psychology), who has received the American Psychological Association Division 50 (Society of Addiction Psychology) Nancy Petry Mid-Career Award. The award was presented at the Collaborative Perspectives on Addiction (CPA) conference, which brings together Society of Addiction Psychology and American Psychological Association scientists to highlight cutting-edge research on the psychology of addiction. The Nancy Petry Mid-Career Award honors an individual who embodies the qualities of excellence, leadership, and dedication in mentoring, research, and service in addiction science.

Dr. Pedersen’s research focuses on examining the individual differences that increase the risk for alcohol problems and alcohol use disorder, as well as for cannabis use. She currently leads multiple grants funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) that integrate stress exposure, discrimination, personality characteristics, environmental contexts, and cognitions to identify when and why people are at risk for alcohol and substance use-related problems. Dr. Pedersen developed and now leads the Research Equity and Community Health Collaborative, is highly engaged with the Department’s Clinical Psychology Internship Program, and has taught trainees at all levels.

Please join us in congratulating Dr. Pedersen!
