Psychiatry Honored with Four Teaching Awards from the School of Medicine

Congratulations to Antoine Douaihy, MD (Professor of Psychiatry and Medicine); Neeta Shenai, MD (Assistant Professor of Psychiatry); Daniel Bender, DO (Assistant Professor of Psychiatry); Morgan Faeder, MD, PhD (Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Neurology); and Kristen Eckstrand, MD, PhD (postdoctoral scholar), who have been honored for excellence in education at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine Curriculum Colloquium. 

Each year, the Pitt School of Medicine recognizes outstanding faculty contributions to medical education through classroom and clinical teaching, mentoring and innovation. 

Antoine Douaihy, MDDr. Douaihy received the William I. Cohen Award for Excellence in Clinical Skills Instruction for Motivational Interviewing, recognized as “one of the highlights of the PittMed curriculum.”

 


 

 

Neeta Shenai, MDDr. Shenai was named Clinical Educator of the Year for the Consultation/Liaison Psychiatry elective. Her students describe her as kind, accessible, and amazing. “I learned so much from working with her. She has a great rapport with her patients and observing her interview style was a really helpful learning experience.”

 


 

Daniel Bender, DODr. Bender was honored with the Clerkship Preceptor of the Year Award. Dr. Bender’s students rated the psychiatry clerkship 5/5, describing him as supportive, caring, and refreshing, as well as “invested in student learning.”

Dr. Faeder and Dr. Eckstrand received an Outstanding Professional Enrichment Course award for Principles of LGBTQ+ Health. Noted an UPSOM student, “I feel like I have a mastery of these skills and am comfortable talking to patients about these topics because of this course.”
