Patrick Buckley, MD, Receives Two UPMC Clinical Excellence Awards

Please join us in congratulating Patrick Buckley, MD (Assistant Professor of Psychiatry), who has been honored with two prestigious awards, a UPMC Physician Excellence Award and an Excellence in Patient Experience Award. Dr. Buckley was recently honored at the 2025 Dr. Loren Roth Quality and Patient Safety Awards Celebration.
The UPMC Physician Excellence Award – New Physician Excellence in Clinical Care honors a physician who has been in clinical practice for three years or less, and who has shown outstanding performance in clinical work and patient care at UPMC. Dr. Buckley’s award nomination noted, “Dr. Buckley is an innovator: he recently led a complex project integrating AI scribes into clinical service, conducting a needs assessment, implementing the tool in an atypical setting, and measuring outcomes. He is a true visionary, thinking about population health and leveraging health systems in ways that are rare from early-career faculty. Best of all, he is deeply kind and collegial.”
In addition, Dr. Buckley received a UPMC Excellence in Patient Experience Award, which recognizes physicians who have been rated as a Top UPMC Physician by Specialty for Psychiatry. He provides clinical care with the UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital (WPH) inpatient consultation-liaison service and sees patients at the gastrointestinal (GI) clinic as an integrated care psychiatrist, serving individuals with inflammatory bowel disease and functional GI syndromes.
Dr. Buckley received his MD and MBA from the University of Virginia, then came to Pittsburgh for psychiatry residency training at WPH in the Academic Administrator Clinician Educator (AACE) Track. He served as Chief Resident of Education and chair of the AACE Track. Dr. Buckley additionally completed the consultation-liaison psychiatry fellowship, serving as Chief Resident for Non-child and Adolescent Fellowships.
Please join us in congratulating Dr. Buckley!
