New Faculty: Dr. Tobias Teichert

Tobias Teichert, PhD, joins TNP Faculty as an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry

The Department of Psychiatry is pleased to welcome Dr. Tobias Teichert to the faculty as an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry in the Translational Neuroscience Program (TNP).

After completing his PhD in Psychology at Philipps-University Marburg in Germany, Dr. Teichert held a Postdoctoral Research Scientist position in the Department of Neuroscience at Columbia University. His primary research interests include understanding the role of dopamine (DA) in cognition, and the cognitive impact of DA dysregulation.

Many psychiatric disorders, including schizophrenia, are associated with impaired cognitive function, but the precise mechanisms leading to this impairment are not fully understood. Using an animal model system, Dr. Teichert studies the acute effects of altered sub-cortical DA transmission on higher cognitive function, and the impact that chronic sub-cortical DA hyper-activity during development has on cognitive performance. He has published his findings in numerous scientific journals including Frontiers in Psychology and Frontiers in Neuroscience.
