We are pleased to congratulate Morgan Faeder, MD, PhD (Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Neurology), and Shelly Kucherer, MD (Assistant Professor of Psychiatry), who have received UPMC Physician Excellence Awards. Honorees were celebrated during the 2021 Dr. Loren Roth Quality and Patient Safety Awards.

Dr. Faeder is the second recipient of the Dr. Joseph C. Maroon Physician of Courage Award, named for its inaugural awardee, Joseph C. Maroon, MD, (Clinical Professor, Neurological Surgery and Heindl Scholar in Neuroscience). The award recognizes a physician who is thriving as a leader within their community after having faced and overcome adversity.

Dr. Kucherer received the New Physician Excellence in Clinical Care Award, which recognizes a physician in the first three years of their clinical career who has made exceptional contributions to clinical work and patient care at UPMC.

Ken Nash, MD (Professor and Vice Chair for Clinical Affairs, Department of Psychiatry, and Professor of Pediatrics) emphasized the great honor of being recognized in the name of Dr. Roth and Dr. Maroon. “Throughout my own career, I have continually tried to emulate Loren and Joe. It is wonderful to see Morgan and Shelly, who are tremendous early-career physicians, carrying the torch forward in the name of Loren Roth and Joe Maroon.”

Please join us in congratulating Dr. Faeder and Dr. Kucherer!
