Klingenstein Award

AACAP Recognizes the Work of David Axelson, MD

The American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP) has presented David Axelson, MD with the 2012 Klingenstein Third Generation Foundation Award for Research in Depression or Suicide.  The award recognizes the best research paper on depression or suicide published in the Journal of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry from July 2011 to June 2012. The AACAP selected Dr. Axelson for his article, "Course of Subthreshold Bipolar Disorder in Youth:  Diagnostic Progression from Bipolar Disorder Not Otherwise Specified." Click here to view the abstract for this publication. The AACAP will formally present the award to Dr. Axelson at its annual meeting in San Francisco, CA in October 2012.

Dr. Axelson is Associate Professor of Psychiatry and the Medical Director of the Child and Adolescent Bipolar Services outpatient program at the Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic.  His research has focused on the phenomenology and treatment of pediatric bipolar disorder, and also encompasses both psychosocial and psychopharmacological approaches.
