We are honored to welcome Morénike Giwa Onaiwu, MA, PhD to the Department on September 16, 2022 as our special guest speaker for the Irene Jakab Memorial Lecture. This virtual lecture will be streamed via Zoom.

Dr. Giwa Onaiwu is a global advocate, educator, disabled person of color, non-binary woman, and parent of children on the autism spectrum in a neurodiverse, multicultural, twice-exceptional serodifferent family. She earned a Master's degree in Special Education from the University of Texas of the Permian Basin and received an interdisciplinary PhD from the University of East Anglia. A prolific writer and social scientist/activist whose work focuses on intersectional justice, meaningful community involvement, human rights, and inclusion, Dr. Giwa Onaiwu, who was raised in the United States by West African immigrants, is recognized as a leader in various social justice activism endeavors. She is a highly sought after public speaker, trainer, and consultant who has presented at the White House, the United Nations, and numerous peer-reviewed international conferences.

CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDITS. The entirety of this program will be a lecture by the speaker(s). The indicated number of clock hours of continuing education is provided through UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital’s Office of Educational Resources and Planning, a PA-approved provider of social work continuing education in accordance with all the applicable educational and professional standards of the Pennsylvania State Board of Social Workers, Marriage and Family Therapist.
