We kick off our Fall Lecture Series on September 8, 2023 at noon with a Psychopharmacology Grand Rounds presented by our clinician educators and colleagues in the UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital Pharmacy.

Agitation can present in many ways ranging from restlessness to aggression and violence and has many causes, including situational, substance intoxication/withdrawal, medical, and psychiatric etiologies. There are situations where verbal de-escalation alone may not be effective and medications for the treatment of agitation are required to ensure patient and staff safety. This lecture in the practical psychopharmacology series will focus on evidence-based prescribing for the management of acute agitation across various populations and etiologies.
