Rotations

UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital is an international leader in education and training, clinical care and research, and it is part of the UPMC Health System. The hospital system is home to inpatient units, outpatient clinics and community-based programs, and it provides a variety of training experiences for mental health professionals. Our research programs are designed to improve treatments for psychiatric disorders, to explicate the etiology and pathogenesis of major mental illnesses, and to improve current diagnostic procedures. Investigations range across the spectrum of basic and applied study of psychopathology.

We are committed to providing outstanding clinical training and therefore require interns to have experience working with both adults and children in various medical settings including inpatient and outpatient programs. This framework offers considerable flexibility regarding specific rotations.

The year is divided into four quarters (three-month periods), and rotations may be scheduled for half-time (two days per week, Monday through Thursday) or quarter-time (one day per week) for three or six months.
