Welcome New Faculty Members Dr. Damani & Dr. Eldeeb
The Department of Psychiatry is pleased to introduce two new research faculty members, Janhavi Damani, PhD, and Safaa Eldeeb, PhD.
Janhavi Damani, PhD (Research Assistant Professor)
Dr. Damani earned her PhD in integrative and biomedical physiology from the Pennsylvania State University, where she then undertook postdoctoral research training in the Department of Nutritional Sciences Diet and Cardiometabolic Health lab.
Dr. Damani’s research focuses on investigating dietary approaches to improve cardiometabolic health in adults at risk for cardiovascular disease. In the Center for Women’s Biobehavioral Health Research, led by Rebecca Thurston, PhD (Pittsburgh Foundation Chair in Women's Health and Dementia and Distinguished Professor of Psychiatry, Clinical and Translational Science, Epidemiology and Psychology), Dr. Damani contributes to studies of midlife women to examine changes in cardiovascular and cerebrovascular health across the menopause transition. Her research focus spans the coordination and analysis of randomized clinical trials, with expertise in cardiovascular disease risk factors, inflammatory biomarkers, oxidative stress, diet quality, bone density, and body composition measures.
Safaa Eldeeb, PhD (Research Instructor in Psychiatry)
Dr. Eldeeb earned her PhD in electrical and computer engineering from the University of Pittsburgh School of Engineering. She completed postdoctoral research training in the laboratory of Carla Mazefsky, PhD (Nancy J. Minshew, MD, Chair in Autism Research and Professor of Psychiatry, Clinical and Translational Science, and Psychology), investigating the relationship between emotion dysregulation and co-occurring behaviors such as aggression.
With a background in biomedical engineering and computer science, Dr. Eldeeb’s research interests include interpretable theory-guided multimodal approaches to non-suicidal self-injury and suicidal thoughts and behaviors in autistic and non-autistic adults. In Dr. Mazefsky’s lab, she contributes to research focused on the development of multimodal technology-based feedback systems that aid clinicians in treating autistic individuals who suffer from emotion dysregulation.
Please join us in welcoming Dr. Damani and Dr. Eldeeb!
