Artificial Intelligence in Psychiatry: How AI Is Changing Psychiatric Practice and Training
On September 18, 2026, the Department of Psychiatry will host the inaugural Kurt Ackerman, MD Clinical Grand Rounds. This grand rounds honors the memory and contributions to the Department and the field of psychiatry by our valued colleague, Dr. Ackerman. Kurt was an exceptional and thoughtful clinician. He successfully advocated for the sharing of records across medical and psychiatric settings, created the Informatics Division at UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital and served as Medical Director of Behavioral Health Informatics.
We are pleased to welcome Patrick Buckley, MD, MBA as our featured speaker. Dr. Buckley will present on “Artificial Intelligence in Psychiatry: How AI Is Changing Psychiatric Practice and Training.”
Dr. Buckley is Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He provides inpatient care through UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital's consultation-liaison psychiatry service and serves as an outpatient integrated psychiatrist within the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition. He received the UPMC Patient Experience Award for outstanding clinical care and the UPMC Physician Excellence Award in recognition of his innovative work integrating AI scribes into clinical practice. His work focuses on the thoughtful integration of emerging technologies into psychiatric practice to improve patient care and the clinician experience.
