University of Pittsburgh Awards Tenure to Oliver Lindhiem, PhD
We are delighted to announce that Oliver Lindhiem, PhD, has received conferral of tenure at the rank of associate professor by the University of Pittsburgh.
Dr. Lindhiem is nationally and internationally recognized in the field of child psychiatry for the development of parenting-based interventions to prevent and treat childhood disruptive behavior disorders. He employs advanced technological and statistical approaches to optimize the delivery and use of evidence-based assessment and intervention. Dr. Lindhiem has created a smartphone app to support generalization of skills learned in parent management therapy and cognitive behavioral treatment to natural environments, a computerized adaptive test of parenting skills, a Bayesian-based index to improve the precision of psychiatric diagnoses, a decision-making tool for clinicians regarding treatment recommendations, and a technology-based screening tool for suicide and depression in pediatric primary care. He has a patented clinical tool, the “Posterior Probability of Diagnosis Index,” a screening measure to help clinicians determine the likelihood that an individual patient meets or exceeds the diagnostic threshold for a particular disorder, given the observed pattern of symptoms.
Dr. Lindhiem currently leads a National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) R01 grant to test the effectiveness of a mobile health system as a standalone versus coach-assisted intervention with the goal of achieving reach and scalability. His goal with this work is to easily deliver treatment at a low cost, increasing access to care for all families. He is principal investigator of a second NICHD R01, focused on developing an effective, easy-to-implement, culturally inclusive, and low-cost tool to assess parenting and to measure change over time. Dr. Lindhiem’s prior funding includes an National Institute of Mental Health K01 award, two R-level awards that received Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) National Institutes of Health (NIH) funding, and a Klingenstein Third Generation award. Dr. Lindhiem has disseminated his research in influential psychology journals, in book chapters, and though numerous invited talks. He is a standing member of the NIH Scientific Review Group/Mental Health Services Research Committee and served a member of the American Psychological Association Division 12 (Society of Clinical Psychology) Presidential Task Force on Evaluating Digital Mental/Behavioral Health Tools.
Dr. Lindhiem has made outstanding contributions to teaching and mentorship. He has taught multiple courses for medical students, and has skillfully overseen the training of numerous young scientists.
