Please join us in congratulating Brant Hasler, PhD, on his appointment to the Department of Psychiatry faculty as an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry.  Dr. Hasler obtained his PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of Arizona and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in the Translational Research Training in Sleep Medicine Program at the University of Pittsburgh prior to his faculty appointment.  His research interests focus on the role of sleep and circadian rhythms in regulating affect and motivation, particularly as relevant to affective disorders and substance abuse.  Dr. Hasler has published his findings in several prestigious scientific journals such as Biological Psychology and the Journal of Affective Disorders, and his work has been recognized by a number of honors, including awards from the Sleep Research Society and the Research Society on Alcoholism, as well as consecutive Loan Repayment Awards from NIH.  With support from a NIH career development award, Dr. Hasler is investigating circadian misalignment and reward function as a novel pathway to adolescent substance use.  He also plans to continue his collaborations with Drs. Duncan Clark, Erika Forbes, Ellen Frank and his colleagues at the University of Pittsburgh Sleep Medicine Institute on new initiatives focusing on the interface of sleep disorders and mental health conditions.
