Leslie E. Horton, PhD Appointed to Faculty

Please join us in welcoming Leslie Horton, PhD to the Department of Psychiatry faculty.

Dr. Horton earned a PhD in Clinical Psychology in 2010 from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro under the mentorship of Dr. Thomas Kwapil where her research focused on the study of social dysfunction in young adults with schizotypy. She is a graduate of the Clinical Psychology Internship program at Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic of UPMC and completed postdoctoral training at the University of Pittsburgh Department of Psychiatry with support from a Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award. Since her arrival in Pittsburgh in 2009, Dr. Horton has pursued a multidisciplinary course of study in collaboration with other department faculty including Drs. Gretchen Haas, Paul Pilkonis, David Brent and Jennifer Silk.

With support from a K23 career development award from the National Institute of Mental Health, Dr. Horton is currently investigating behavioral and psychophysiological predictors of social dysfunction in the daily lives of adolescents at risk for schizophrenia. Throughout her academic career, Dr. Horton has disseminated her work through peer-reviewed publications and presentations. She has co-written numerous peer-reviewed publications in journals including the Journal of Affective Disorders, Schizophrenia Research and others, and has presented her work at scientific meetings and conferences in the United States and abroad.

In addition to her research activities, Dr. Horton is an excellent clinician and provides individual and group therapy at the Services for the Treatment of Early Psychosis (STEP) Outpatient Clinic at Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic of UPMC. She also is a member of several professional organizations and is frequently asked to serve as a reviewer for the Journal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry and other scientific journals.
