On March 3, 2022 we welcome Drs. Hader Mansour, Julie Kmiec and Konasale Prasad for our next Clinical Grand Rounds.
The growing number of states across the US that are loosening regulations towards cannabis use highlight the shifting attitude toward the substance. In this clinical grand rounds, presenters will discuss the clinical implications of use of medical marijuana, liberalized legal use and drawbacks including association with psychosis.
Dr. Mansour, Assistant Professor of Psychiatry, is medical director of the Addiction Medicine Services inpatient unit at UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital (WPH).
Dr. Kmiec, Associate Professor of Psychiatry, is an expert in the treatment of substance use disorders (SUDs), especially opioid use disorder. Her expertise has substantially enhanced UPMC’s capacity to respond to the opioid crisis in our region, particularly through the delivery of medication-assisted treatment. Dr. Kmiec is the medical director of the UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital (WPH) Ambulatory Detoxification Program, the buprenorphine Narcotic Addiction Treatment Program, the WPH Bridge Clinic, which provides treatment to patients referred from medical emergency departments for opioid use disorder.
Dr. Prasad, Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Bioengineering, is a nationally recognized researcher in the field of schizophrenia. Using cutting-edge PET and MRI methods, Dr. Prasad's research seeks to characterize molecular markers associated with neuroinflammation in schizophrenia. His findings have increased our understanding of pathophysiological processes underlying schizophrenia and contributed to the development of innovative treatments for patients diagnosed with this disorder.
