Piper Carroll, MD, Receives Gateway Medical Society Rising Star Award
Please join us in congratulating Piper Carroll, MD (Assistant Professor of Psychiatry), who has received the Gateway Medical Society 2025 Rising Star Award. The Rising Star Award recognizes physicians who demonstrate consistent leadership and commitment to the tenets of clinical excellence, community health & advocacy, and tangible work to reduce health disparities within care delivery systems and within the health professions pipeline. Dr. Carroll received the award during Gateway’s 2025 Black Excellence in White Coats Awards & Scholarship Gala.
As a Rising Star Awardee, Dr. Carroll was recognized for her role as a founding member of the Coalition of Residents and Fellows of Color (C-ROC), a UPMC Employee Resource Group focusing on creating a positive training environment for all residents and fellows of color. C-ROC develops initiatives designed to encourage the engagement and belonging of residents and fellows of color, and provides an internal support system and community.
