Congratulations to David Lewis, MD (Distinguished Professor of Psychiatry and Neuroscience, Thomas Detre Professor of Academic Psychiatry, and Chair, Department of Psychiatry), who has received the Netherlands Institute for Neuroscience (NIN) Ariëns Kapper Medal. The award recognizes exceptional contributions to the field of neuroscience and was presented by the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences during the biannual NIN Summer School in June 2026. NIN Summer School was held at the 17th-century Singelkerk clandestine Mennonite church in Amsterdam.

Dr. Lewis is an internationally recognized expert in the neurobiology of schizophrenia, specifically the alterations in cortical neural circuitry that are now recognized, in large part through Dr. Lewis’s work, as the core substrate of this illness. He presented a lecture entitled “Cognitive Deficits and Cortical Circuitry Alterations in Schizophrenia: The Essential Role of Postmortem Human Brain Studies.”
