Dr. Mary Amanda Dew Appointed to IRB Advisory Committee
on Social and Behavioral Research
Mary Amanda Dew, PhD has been appointed to the University of Pittsburgh IRB Advisory Committee on Social and Behavioral Research. Dr. Dew was invited to serve on the committee as the representative for the Schools of the Health Sciences. The Committee serves as a liaison between the IRB and investigators in the Provost’s area schools as well as other schools that include members engaged in social/behavioral research (including the Health Sciences).
Dr. Dew is Professor of Psychiatry, Psychology, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, and Clinical and Translational Science at the University of Pittsburgh. She also directs the Clinical Epidemiology Program and Quality of Life Research, Artificial Heart Program, in Adult Cardiothoracic Transplantation at UPMC. Dr. Dew serves as the Co-Director of the Center for Late Life Depression Prevention and Treatment, she is actively engaged in translational research designed to improve the quality of care for our older population. She also is active in the University Center for Social and Urban Research and the McGowan Institute for Regenerative Medicine.
The focus of Dr. Dew’s own research is on mental health, medical adherence, and quality of life outcomes in organ transplant recipients and their family caregivers, as well as similar issues in individuals who receive mechanical circulatory support as either a bridge to transplant or as destination therapy. She also studies strategies to promote safety and prevent poor psychosocial outcomes in living organ donors.
