MindScapes Art Event October 6, 2017, 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm The Image Box, 4933 Penn Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15224

MindScapes is an art event that will display artistic scientific images from researchers around Pittsburgh alongside pieces from artists with mental illnesses.

The goal of MindScapes is to reduce stigma and misconception surrounding mental health. Through art we aim to create a better understanding of the lived experience and scientific basis of mental illness. By providing a forum for self-expression and self-definition, we hope to challenge the typical way that mental illness is portrayed. In parallel, we’d like to demonstrate what the research that improves our understanding of these conditions looks like in an aesthetic way.

Scientific art work will be sold at the event with all proceeds to be donated to the Persad Center, a local organization which provides mental health support to members of the LGBTQ community.

This event is free and open to everyone!

Special thanks to Kayla Barko, David Ohm and Donna McBride for their help organizing the event.

This event wouldn’t be possible without support from the Department of Psychiatry, Center for Neuroscience (CNUP) and the Brain Institute at the University of Pittsburgh, and the  Center for Neural Basis of Cognition, a join venture of the University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon University.
