A Clear Path Forward: Recent Findings in the Study of De Novo Copy Number and Sequence Variation in Autism Spectrum Disorders

Dr. Matthew State’s laboratory has had a long-standing interest in the contribution of rare mutations to childhood onset neurodevelopmental and neuropsychiatric disorders. They are currently pursuing gene discovery efforts in autism spectrum disorders (ASD), Tourette syndrome and structural brain disorders. Their recent work includes both studies of unusual or “outlier” pedigrees that promise insights into molecular and cellular mechanisms of psychopathology as well as larger-scale genome wide studies of both chromosome structure and DNA sequence variation.
